My poster was selected for the Show Us Your Type Exhibition and shown at the OFFF Barcelona Conference in Spain.

Role: Graphic Designer

Context

Show Us Your Type Exhibition is an ongoing project about type and cities.

The chosen city for this exhibition was Barcelona, Spain. Unique to this exhibition, “posters” were required to be in GIF format to be viewed on a screen, which allowed motion to play a part of the design. If selected, it would be showcased at the OFFF Festival at the location of the city.

From the Show Us Your Type website:

Show Us Your Type Exhibition is an ongoing project about two things we adore, type and cities. We started this project to provide a creative platform for designers to share their talents and explore cities from a different perspective.

OFFF Festival is a community inviting all those who are eager to learn, to participate and get inspired in a three-day journey of conferences, workshops, activities and performances.

I had fun pushing the limits of what was legible with letter-forms by repeating thin lines laid over chunky letter silhouettes. The word "Barcelona" appears phonetically to the viewer without the letters feeling randomized and still readable. I prioritized harmony on the alignments of specific parts of letters rather than a traditional grid, and drew color inspiration from the national flag of Spain.

Results 🏆

My poster made the exhibition! Overall, I was satisfied with how the design looked. If the opportunity came around again, my focus would be to spend more time trying out varied approaches with the letter-forms in motion.
